Scrivener for Chinese text collections: an introduction

If you’re looking to organise your own collection of Chinese texts, Scrivener, a popular writing application, turns out to be one great option to consider. Scrivener was created as a tool for authors and researchers. It allows users to bring multiple documents together in one place and break them into small manageable sections. It has an excellent file management system, making it easy to select and view multiple subdocuments side-by-side. And finally, it enables advanced text searches using Regular Expressions. The combination of these features makes it a great tool for exploring texts in Chinese, English and any other written language.

Having discovered Scrivener’s potential as a text research tool I’d like to share some of the interesting ways it can be put to use. To begin, I’ve put together a video introducing some key features of Scrivener.

In future posts, I will go into more practical details and explore how Scrivener’s features can be applied. Topics include approaches to text organisation, use of Regular Expressions, working with images and PDF files, and some special features for use with Chinese text.
